At 12:00am a severe earthquake started in north canterbury near hanmer springs reaching a 7.6 magnitude.

What were your feelings as the earthquake started?

Jessie-I fell off my bed and hit my foot on the side table so painful.

What were you doing when the earthquake happened?

Jessie-I was asleep and then like I said I woke up with my face on the floor.

Did your family vacate the building you were in at the time?

Jessie-No we didn't really need to there wasn't a tsunami so we didn’t have to.

What's your opinion on earthquakes?

Jessie-Well kind of fun  and kind of not because like there's a small chance you could be in the tsunami and that wouldn't be fun at all.

Did the earthquake wake you?

So like many Waikanae residents, Jessie and her family had a very interesting and exciting experience with the earthquake. in other places there was a lot of damage caused by the earthquake. While many of us may feel scared of  such  a big  quake we hope Waikanae doesn’t have a similar shake in the future.

How kapiti island came to be

How Kapiti Island came to be.

Have you ever wondered how Kapiti Island came to be?

Long ago (Like 20 centuries ago) there were seven Mountains: Otaki, Waikanae, Akatarawa, Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Maunganui and Kapiti, out of all these seven mountains Kapiti was the only woman and With a dress of greenery and a veil of leaves she was the most beautiful mountain in all of the land.

All of the mountains had rocky feelings for her, but out of the six mountains only one had strong feelings for her.

All the mountains were trying to show off to Kapiti  but she had already given her heart to Maunganui, the other got jealous of Maunganui so they made a plan to try split them up.

Meanwhile…

Kapiti and Maunganui were walking back from their visit to Taupo, as they were walking back along the beach they looked out to the empty ocean, Kapiti stopped in her tracks and stared at the glistening waves of the ocean .

The other mountains had started putting their plans to work first they started weaving strong ropes out of flax, then tying them together to make nets.

After that they climbed trees and waited for Kapiti and Maunganui to return.

Maunganui and Kapiti walked along the path and as they passed the trees “BOO!!!!” the other mountains sprung out of their hiding place and through nets over them, Maunganui and Kapiti said their goodbyes as they got pulled apart. Maunganui got pulled all the way to the north-east of Tauranga city and had a magical wall built a wall around him to keep him there, for years he tryed and tryed to free himself but he couldn't, while he got tugged to where Mount Maunganui is now, Kapiti was pulled over to Wellington.

1 year later…

After a year of being locked up Kapiti finally died of depression.

The other mountains saw what they had done they walked the 1000 steps to Ruaumoko who sincerely punished them for what they did suddenly they began to shrink he took all their strength and pride away from them and pushed it all the way to Maunganui who suddenly grew taller and felt stronger than he had in ages with his new strength he was able to smash through the wall and race to Kapiti but when he got there he was devastated to see Kapiti dead .

He carved a beautifully intricate design on a gorgeous boat off fairies mountains , people and their love. He carried her out out of Wellington and to the beach of Waikanae where he placed her into the boat and pushed her out to sea to where she now lays he then returned to where he now stands where he was turned to stone.

And that is how kapiti island came to be.

This is a story about a girl called Rachel and how she is obsessed with horses,

Her farther sells her horse and makes her family move to Boston.

Set in the olden days this book is full of adventure and fun.

I rate this book a 10 star and recommend it for years 8+,

It  is a geat heart warming tale about a girl and her horse.

Application for the position of student librarian.

Dear Mrs Burns.

I have heard you are looking for two new class Librarians I really hope I could be one .

I would love to be a Librarian as it would be a great pleasure to help our class community as well as learning about all the amazing books.

I have past experience as a class librarian , writing book reports and reading a lot!

I am especially interested in books about horses but I also like exciting books and drama series.

My teacher says I have empathy for others which means I have excellent people skills and I am like a hen (I think that's a good thing?).

The princess and the foal is a great book filled with all emotions .

This tragic story is one of the best from the author Stacy Gregg,

based on the true story of the first female rider from Jordan Princess Haya . This story is about a girl called Haya and how she faces all the tragedies that come her way . As you can tell by the title it is about the princess (Haya) and the foal (Bint Al-Reeh),they go on to one of the  most amazing events possible of course they win .I would recommend this book for 7 year olds and up ,out of 10 I give this book a 9, it is a great book.

Sports Or No Sports

In school there are lots of learning opportunities but NOT enough, the majority of the time, children are sitting in the classroom learning maths ,reading ,writing and spelling but not doing physical education with their class.

Lot’s of teachers focus on mental education not physical with that there is a problem ,it is something doctors call obesity . obesity is when a person is 20% over their average body weight .

Some people say children get enough exercise on the weekend but that's only 2 days out of 7 plus what about heart attacks you can get them too if you don't burn off all the fat you eat.

Some say you can  get sunburn or even  worse skin cancer but that’s just a matter of putting on sunblock.

A way to use both sides is to do learning games outside that makes learning fun and educational + the children get lots of exercise.

Some people say that people get enough exercise at morning break, lunch and before and after school but some people have like tutoring  v  after school or before and at lunch some people get bullied and don’t have enough time to play + it is nice to play with your class to build a nice relationship with the people in your class.

I think we could use both sides or have more sports at school.What do you think?

Whareroa Farm

Today I went to Whareroa farm with my class (rm 6) & room 18.

We all jumped on the bus  and travelled too Whareroa Farm. .

Once we got there we had to sit down in a...a...ah um a thing I don’t know the name of,anyway so we sat down and a lady called Jan talked about the water cycle and the we got put into groups.

I was in group A along with my BFFPB Faith.

Our first activity was walking up a big hill I had to pull Faith up most of it :)

ON the way up we stopped to look at some shells that were in the ground, they were called midden and talked about why they were there.

Our next activity was catching/fishing for aquatic bugs me and Faith found a uncased caddis,a dobsonfly and a may fly.

That was my favourite activity.

Our next activity was bush and beetles but our teacher didn,t know that and we took a wrong turn and missed out on some stuff but that was ok.

We walked through a stream and walked up a hill too look at some fungi, we saw some wetas on the way we saw two pairs of mating

We walked up the hill some more and saw a dead CAT, it had been caught in a trap.

Then we walked back down the hill.

And started on our next activity, ORIENTEERING!!

Our last activity.

I was the group leader (for awhile anyway.)

We took a wrong turn and walked about a K, before we realised it we went back the way we came and Mr Corlett told us where we went wrong then pointed out the marker for us.

We only finished one chapter of the orienteering but it was still fun.

After that we walked back to the others and jumped back on the bus for the long journey home. (sorry that was over exaggerated.) Then that was one of the many adventures room 6 have had and one of the many to come.

Whareroa farm

Whareroa farm is full of beautiful bushes & beautiful trees with the swaying of their leaves

Like there's a commotion in the trees As the wind blows their leaves.

With the beautiful native birds singing in the trees and the tiny bugs chomping on the leaves.

With the weta in their homes, all snuggly and close,

Hidden away like a kiwi

As the wind outside their homes roars as the storm gets close.

Today I went to ridding. We got floated down to the beach with our horses and saddled up when we got there. We started off just walking down the beach and then we started to gallop. When we stopped to get ice cream my horse without any sign sank down on his knees and started to roll with me still on his back, luckily I jumped off. After that we swam them in the sea.

Today I went riding again and this time we did paddock jumping. We did it in a huge air strip. After we went over this jump that was about 75 cm Kahu started bucking like crazy. We think it was because of his mouth being sore. After that we started washing the horses. I never knew Kahu could be so clean. His white spots were actually white.

Today was my big show day. It was like the best day ever. It was Kahus first time out and he was so good.. We got 2nd in best combination, I was so stoked because it was our first event and that is my favourite ribbon now. I got 6th in pony club pony and 5th in the bending race, 5th in jumping for both speed and style which were technically last because there were only 5 people in that event.

Today I went to my friend Kia’s house and played there for 5 hours. I had a very good time.

This was probably one of the best holidays ever and i had fun!
